Position Summary:
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the database design, administration, management and protection of Enterprise databases. Accountabilities include the research, evaluation, design, creation, performance and tuning, security, backup, restore, support and maintenance of Database Management System technologies at Visy. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to support database-related needs and ensure the stability and reliability of our data systems.
What are the primary responsibilities of the Role?
- Install, configure, and maintain Oracle databases and related software.
- Perform regular database monitoring to ensure performance, security, and availability of databases.
- Design, implement, and optimize database schemas, tables, and objects.
- Backup and restore databases according to company standards and disaster recovery protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks, deadlocks, and query optimization.
- Perform regular database patching and upgrades in accordance with best practices.
- Implement and maintain database security, including user roles, permissions, and encryption.
- Implement and monitor database replication, clustering, and high-availability solutions (e.g., Oracle Data Guard, Oracle RAC).
- Perform database performance tuning and query optimization for high-load applications.
- Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or PL/SQL.
- Work closely with application developers to support database queries, stored procedures, and database design.
- Provide 24/7 support for database-related incidents, including on-call rotation as needed.
- Ensure compliance with database backup policies, data retention policies, and recovery point objectives (RPO).
- Participate in database capacity planning and growth forecasting.
- Document database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting techniques for internal teams.
Experience & Qualifications:
Mandatory (critical for the Role):
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field .
- 8+ years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator (DBA).
- Strong experience with Oracle Database versions (e.g., 11g, 12c, 19c, 21c).
- Expertise in database backup and recovery techniques, including RMAN.
- Solid understanding of Oracle database architecture, including tablespaces, indexes, and data files.
- Proficiency in PL/SQL programming and database scripting.
- Experience in configuring Oracle APEX environment
- Experience with Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and other high-availability solutions.
- Strong performance tuning skills, including query optimization, memory management, and I/O tuning.
- Familiarity with Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) and other monitoring tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
Key Technical Skills:
Skills (Technical, Business, Leadership):
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification or higher.
- Experience with cloud-based Oracle databases (e.g., Oracle Cloud, AWS RDS).
- Extensive knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting.
- Familiarity with database migration and upgrade processes.
- Experience with database monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Nagios, SolarWinds).
- Knowledge of IT security practices and compliance
- Knowledge of other database technologies (e.g., Sybase, MSSQL, MySQL and Other Opensource RDBMS)
